As a first medium for me, oil on canvas is a very comfortable way to express myself through my subject. I love the feeling of watching my subject emerge as I lay color down on my canvas through a brush stroke that wasn't there before.
Watercolor was my first new medium after my twenty plus years away from creating art. I am a self-taught watercolorist eagerly exploring everything watercolor has to offer. YUPO paper and abstracts are among my new loves as I continue to learn and explore more with this mediium.
My newest medium to explore. Coming from a background painting in oil I had to learn to embrace the medium for it's differences to what I was used to and learn new ways to layer color, extend the drying time of the medium, or not--and express my impressions more rapidly.
Where am I today? Introducing myself to mixed media. Just a baby here, beginning with acrylic, watercolor crayons and stamps. But look out because I’m already fired up as I look to the future with new pens, pencils, inks and more ready to be used. With new tools in hand I’m looking forward to the freedom of expression mixing mediums will offer!
What can I say about painting with pastel. Fun, fun and fast. Bold and vibrant what’s not to love about the colors. Even the beautiful soft colors and neutrals set a mood that you feel through your finger tips as you lay down each color.
I have given myself permission to mess up my sketch books! What makes you want to sketch faster than a freshly sharpened pencil or stick of charcoal in hand! My newest love is drawing with many different varieties of pen and ink. Presently my drawings and sketches are living In my many sketchbooks. I don’t think I’ve ever met a sketchbook I didn’t want to fill up!
I remember entering an art contest I saw advertised in a magazine when I was eleven years old. You had to submit your drawing of a cartoon character that appeared in the add. I knew then that I wanted to be an artist.

I was in the fifth grade when my parents bought me my first set of oil paints. We had recently moved to the country and I was fortunate to have had an art teacher in middle school that believed in me and inspired me. Later in college I was also grateful to have had so many instructors that inspired me to create, taught me to trust my instincts and encouraged me to explore different mediums and ways to express myself.
I may have set my artwork aside to pursue a different career path, but my artistic need to create never set me aside. Twenty five years later I've picked up my paint brush once again... as well as a few other new tools. Having rekindled my artistic burn to create, I am busy exploring new mediums such as acrylic and watercolor, as well as new ways to express myself in abstract and mixed media.
